Jun-Ki Choi, Ph.D. is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton and Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC). His research focuses on industrial decarbonization, renewable energy systems, life cycle assessment, circular economy, and multiscale energy and environmental modeling that connects engineering design with policy and societal impacts. Dr. Choi has led more than $9 million in externally funded research and published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles addressing energy efficiency, renewable manufacturing, and sustainability transitions. Through the DOE IAC program, he has conducted and overseen more than 1,100 industrial energy assessments, helping manufacturers reduce energy use, costs, and carbon emissions while training the next generation of clean energy engineers. Internationally, Dr. Choi has held visiting and teaching appointments at institutions including KAIST, Seoul National University, the University of Bologna, and CUNY. He has delivered over 40 invited talks worldwide on system thinking for industrial decarbonization. He holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University and an M.S. from the University of Michigan, and currently serves as the Anderson Endowed Chair in Engineering Innovation.
