M.F. Montemor is Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Department of Chemical Engineering. Her scientific activity focusses on new functional coatings for surface protection and forenergy storage. She is co-author of 20 book chapters and above 350 scientific papers. Her h index is 76.She has been awarded with the EFC medal and has received a Doctor Honoris Causa Degree by University of Mons. Leading a scientific team of approximately 20 researchers, including PhD students, pos-docs and young researchers, she fosters a creative research environment conducive to cutting-edge research and innovation that addresses synergies between materials engineering research and industry needs.She is co-founder of the company “Charge2C-NewCap” that fabricates supercapacitors.

Goran Strbac is a Professor of Energy Systems, with extensive experience in advanced modelling and analysis of operation, planning, security and economics of multi-energy systems. He led the development of novel advanced analysis approaches and methodologies that have been extensively used to inform industry, governments and regulatory bodies about the role and value of emerging new technologies and systems in supporting cost effective evolution to smart low carbon energy future. He is currently Director of the joint Imperial-Tsinghua Research Centre on Intelligent Power and Energy Systems, Member of OFGEM Climate Resilience Expert Panel, Member of the UK Smart System Forum, Member of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for the Energy Transition, and Member of the Joint EU Programme in Energy Systems Integration of the European Energy Research Alliance. Dr. Weidong Zhu is currently working as a professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, USA. He has completed his Dual B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 1986 and completed his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Arizona State University, 1988 and completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, at University of California at Berkeley, 1994. He has received many awards like the CAREER Award, National Science Foundation in the year of 2004, and Bayer Teaching Excellence Award, International Symposium on Multi-/Inter-Disciplinary Engineering in the year of 2006. His research spans the fields of dynamics, vibration, control, applied mechanics, structural health monitoring, and wind energy, and integrates analytical development, numerical simulation, experimental validation, and industrial application. Prof. Dr. Foo Keng Yuen is the UNESCO Co-Chair on Eco-hydraulics for Sustainable Water Infrastructures for SDG 6 in the Asia and the Pacific Region. His research interests are environmental engineering, waste utilization, water treatment technology, catalysis, food security and toxicology, and environmental health. He has involved in different kinds of university, national and international research grants, amounting to approximately RM 10 million. His aptitude for high quality research of international standing has been supported by the consultancy projects of exceeding RM 3 million, more than 100 international publications, with a total citation of exceeding 20,000, and an author h-index of 53. Foo’s scholastic achievements and thought leadership are recognised locally and internationally. Jun-Ki Choi, Ph.D. is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton and Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC). His research focuses on industrial decarbonization, renewable energy systems, life cycle assessment, circular economy, and multiscale energy and environmental modeling that connects engineering design with policy and societal impacts. Dr. Choi has led more than $9 million in externally funded research and published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles addressing energy efficiency, renewable manufacturing, and sustainability transitions. Through the DOE IAC program, he has conducted and overseen more than 1,100 industrial energy assessments, helping manufacturers reduce energy use, costs, and carbon emissions while training the next generation of clean energy engineers. Internationally, Dr. Choi has held visiting and teaching appointments at institutions including KAIST, Seoul National University, the University of Bologna, and CUNY. He has delivered over 40 invited talks worldwide on system thinking for industrial decarbonization. He holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University and an M.S. from the University of Michigan, and currently serves as the Anderson Endowed Chair in Engineering Innovation.

Willi Semmler is the Arnhold Professor of International Cooperation and Development Emeritus at the New School for Social Research, New York. He was a Postdoc at Columbia University, a professor at American University, Washington, D.C., and Bielefeld University, Germany, and a Fulbright Professor at the University of Vienna. He is an honorary doctor of the American University Europe-Fon and was an evaluator of research projects for the EU Commission and a visiting scholar at the ECB and the IMF while working for the IEO at the IMF. He is also a member of the Center on Capitalism and Society, Columbia University, directed by Edmund Phelps (Nobel Laureate in Economics), a research associate at La Sapienza, Rome, a senior research associate at the IIASA, Vienna, and an associate editor of the journal Econometrics and Statistics. His research is on empirical macroeconomics, financial economics, and the economics of climate change. Professor Li’s research areas include waste resource utilization, green and low-carbon technologies, and new pollutant control. She was selected as a National High-Level Talent, and Outstanding Agricultural Research Talent of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. She also serves as a member of the Chinese Society of Microbiology, a director of the Beijing Society of Microbiology, and a member of the national ecological farm expert group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
